Before we set sail, you are invited to visit the Vaadin HQ in Turku. Then, we board the M/S Viking Grace for a program organized by the Vaadin Team featuring Josh Long on Spring, Leif Åstrand on reactive UI updates and Marcus Hellberg on AI.

Getting there is easy: there is a direct train connection from Helsinki straight to Turku Harbor.

What is the Vaadin Viking Cruise?

It is the return of a legendary community voyage after a 15-year hiatus. Think of it as a floating pre-conference meetup crossing the frozen Baltic Sea, combining deep-dive tech talks with social networking before we hit the main event in Stockholm.

Who is this for?

Java developers and full-stack teams! It is perfect for those traveling to Jfokus, but also for anyone who wants to join a unique tech meetup on the Baltic Sea.

Do I have to attend Jfokus to join the cruise?

No. The Vaadin Viking Cruise is a standalone community event open to all developers. You are welcome to join us for the trip, the talks, and the party, even if you are not attending the conference in Stockholm.

When and where does the cruise depart?

The cruise departs on Sunday, February 1, 2026. We sail on the M/S Viking Grace, leaving Turku, Finland at 20:55. We recommend arriving early to join the visit to Vaadin HQ in Turku.

Does Vaadin book my room?

No. You must reserve your own cabin via vikingline.fi. We recommend booking early to ensure availability on the correct sailing.

Will I arrive in time for Jfokus?

Yes. We arrive in Stockholm on Monday morning (Feb 2nd), ensuring you have plenty of time to disembark and make it to the Jfokus workshops starting that day.

How do I get to the ship?

If you are coming from the capital, there is a direct train connection from Helsinki to Turku Harbor that takes you right to the terminal.

What is on the agenda?

We are curating a specific technical track featuring Josh on Spring, Leif on reactive UI updates, and Marcus on AI. The rest of the time is yours to network, enjoy the buffet, and experience the "frozen Baltic" atmosphere.
